Retreatments
Although root canal success rates are extremely high, occasionally there will be failure. Root canal therapy can fail for the following reasons:
- a restoration fails allowing bacterial contamination of the root canal system
- a canal is missed during the initial treatment
- recurrent decay allows contamination of the canal system
- the original treatment was inadequate
As a specialty practice, we are experienced at identifying these problems and providing the appropriate corrective measures to save your tooth.
Retreatments tend to technically, be more complex than initial root canal treatment, and can take additional time to complete as we have to disassemble the prior treatment before addressing corrective actions. From a comfort standpoint, there is no difference and patients normally find the experience no worse than having a crown.
A consultation visit will typically be performed prior to initiating retreatment so we can diagnose your problem and come up with a plan of action to treat it.
